This week we've got a double punch: not only will this trick make you look like a card-dealing badass, but there's an quick, easy, and (most importantly) impressive card trick to learn with it!

Revision3 Summary

Performing The One Handed Cut: The Charlier Cut

The setup is simple. Hold the deck as a block in your palm-up hand, between your thumb and four fingers. Next, allow half the cards to drop as a block from your thumb. Then use your index finger to push up the dropped block of cards all the way back up against your thumb, creating a "teepee" or "letter A" with the two halves of the deck. Finally, push your index finger upward so that the bottom half of the deck overtakes the top... and then let gravity do the rest: allow both blocks to drop and the bottom half will now be on top.

Showing How to Execute The Charlier Cut

The trick: first off, go back and review our "controlled cards" episode. There you'll learn how to do the overhand shuffle... but more importantly you'll learn how to control a card to the bottom of the deck and keep it there... which will allow you to pull off...

Once their card is on bottom, start a Charlier cut as usual. However, as you approach the end: before the two blocks fall into place, tilt your wrist so the two sides form a "V" shape, allowing the tips of your fingers into the crevice. Close the deck over your fingers, and use the pads of your fingers to pull out the sandwiched card in the middle (which, conveniently, used to be the bottommost card of the deck). Flip the card over the top, and claim your free beer for your one-handed card trick!
