Sources are telling Bloomberg that Verizon plans to make a first-round bid for Yahoo’s Web business next week and would be willing to buy Yahoo's stake in Yahoo Japan as well. Alphabet’s Google division is also considering a bid. AT&T, Comcast and Microsoft have decided not to bid. Time Inc. is still evaluating, and private equity funds Bain and TPG are looking to back someone else's play here although they might make solo bids as well. First round bids are due April 11.

Messaging app line began letting developers create bots on its platform but it’s dealing with investigations in two markets. Japanese regulators are investigating Line’s handling of customer money. Unused deposits in Japan must be kept with the Legal Affairs Bureau but Line didn’t deposit unspent credits in a game because it claims they are not currency, just Line points. Meanwhile in Thailand stickers that mock the royal family may have violated rules against insulting the monarchy which carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. Stickers are made by users but vetted by Line.

Pick of the Day

I have a pick for anyone that is blind. More often than not, if I need to check if an app is accessabile to voice over, apple's talking screen reader built in for iOS devices, I check out applevis.com. They have forums, and they review apps based on how well voiceover works with different apps as a note, love the show. Thanks,

Natron points out video on the Internet often lags behind live video, which could be a problem for Twitter: “people posting to Twitter could be watching on TV, and then their tweets will get ahead of the Twitter video. Which means they could be spoiling the game when they post tweets. And the people most likely to read the tweets would also be people watching the delayed Twitter video feed.”

Up here in the northeast where Dunkin Donuts out numbers Starbucks the DD app does the same thing as the Starbucks apps. You can even use Apple Pay to reload your gift cards on the app. The DD that I frequent just updated their credit card terminals and now accept all NFC based payments including Apple Pay. If it wasn't for the perk I get using the DD app I would use Apple Pay to buy my daily coffee. The only place I use Apple Pay is at my works cafeteria vending machines since no other business I frequent in my town uses it.

Happy to report that I am able to routinely survive a normal working day, including bus and train travel, food, stationery purchases, etc using just the Apple Pay. However, card plastic contactless is still marginally, but noticeably, faster than iPhone - which takes almost a full second to authorise sometimes.

Hope the US catches up sometime soon!

I was skeptical about how a bot could help with shopping, so I tried out the new H&M bot with Kik Messenger, and was actually surprised. A couple of takeaways:

Pro
1. The bot does a good job of establishing a fashion profile when you first engage.
2. Its surprisingly fast
3. I like that it gives you a complete outfit and the full price with a link to purchase.

Con
1. Its billed as being able to input one item of clothing and build an outfit around it, but its a pretty on-rail experience. Once you veer from their selected options, its very hit or miss (I tried "blazer" and "suit" with no luck, "sneakers" worked). Also there's no way to state color preferences. Ideally I'd like to upload a picture of an item I already have to build an outfit around.

2. I wish it would let you give your sizes up front so they don't suggest items that are out of stock for you.

3. No way to preference items on clearance.

4. No integrated payment system, kicks you out to the site once you've decided on something.

My biggest issue will be how they balance getting me to engage with the bot vs it being a spam machine. Because I don't want it to send me a message if there's a general sale, but if a shirt I've told it I like goes on sale, I do want to know that.

Overall, I'm actually impressed it works as well as it does, but I don't know if its something I'll use in its current state to do actual shopping.
