Feedback

  • Chris B. twitters in a question inspired by Brian and Tom's review of Star Trek Into Darkness. [25]

@shwood Good review of ST:ID on #framerate But, where's the line between ""homage"" and ""copying""? Wife and I disagreed on this.

  • Nik responds to comparisons of Star Trek Into Darkness and Wrath of Khan.

Hi Brian, I've been a fan of the Star Trek's set in the 24th Century since I was a kid. I have never liked TOS and as such I've never seen Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, I have no nostalgia for Kirk era Star Trek. I did however like the first J.J. Abrams Star Trek, so after seeing Into Darkness last week and then seeing your little challenge in last weeks Spoiler Zone I went and bought the Blu-ray of Wrath of Khan. After watching it last night I really feel that Into Darkness is the better of the two movies.
It was nice to see where many of the concepts from the two Abrams films come from like the Kobayashi Maru and the Centaurian Slug, but I feel Wrath of Khan takes it's self to seriously when really it is just a campy 80's movie based on a campy 60's TV show. Into Darkness on the other hand I feel broke up the tension with the silliness giving a chance for the audience to relax and catch their breath.
[SPOILER ALERT FOR BOTH MOVIES] I knew going into Wrath of Khan that Spock dies, that was spoiled for me years ago. But I feel that it's fairly obvious that they are just going to go back to Regular 1 and pick him up after the magic planet does it's thing, just as obvious as Khan's blood bringing Kirk back from the dead in Into Darkness. Finally I feel that the end fight of Into Darkness is better than the Submarine battle in Wrath of Khan, it's just more satisfying to see Spock beat the hell out of Khan than for Khan to commit suicide in the hope of killing Kirk in the process.

  • Anthony W. clarifies Netflix's expiration date situation.
