Alphabet reported earnings per share of $11.90 which beat the street. Revenue was up as well at $36.34 billion. Paid clicks on Google properties were up 39%. but cost-per-click on Google properties were down -19%.
Samsung's latest quarter did not impress, revenue fell 13.5 percent to 52.4 trillion won, and the company's semiconductor business fell 64 percent in operating profit to 4.1 trillion won, while the display business logged 560 billion won in losses.
The We Company, aka WeWork, filed for an IPO. No details were revealed as far as financial information in the filing, but the company previously told CNBC that it had a net loss of $1.9 billion on $1.8 revenue in 2018, and a net loss of $933 million on $866 million in revenue in 2017.
Twitter announced several new deals at its Digital Content NewFronts presentation Monday in New York, including a deal with Univision, The Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine.
Chewy.com, which is owned by Petsmart, has filed to go public. PetSmart acquired Chewy in 2017 for around $3 billion. Chewy reported a net loss of $268 million on sales of $3.5 billion in 2018.
Huawei is in hot water with Vodafone, which tells Bloomberg it found vulnerabilities for years with equipment supplied by Huawei for Vodafone's Italian business. Vodafone says it identified backdoors in software that could have given Huawei unauthorized access to Vodafone's network in Italy.
Facebook announced Project LightSpeed, including a brand-new Messenger app less than 30MB in size, not unlike the Messenger Lite mobile app, Facebook also said it’s launching a Messenger desktop app for Windows and macOS.
Amazon announced that its Skills Kit (ASK), that's the platform's software development kit, now supports Spanish in the U.S., and A- enabled devices in the U.S. will also get support for Spanish later this year.
