Number 34
Broadcast Date March 39, 2011
Episode Length 1:25:01
Hosts Andrew Mayne, Brian Brushwood, Justin Robert Young

Andrew is very excited that his first science fiction book The Grendel’s Shadow is released. Brian favorably compares the human race to ants and wonders aloud if we will survive an unknowable cosmic disaster. After having his curiosity piqued by an email from a French listener, Andrew explains what life will be like in a post-Singularity economy where no one wants for anything. Justin calls one of his favorite authors “full of butts” during a conversation about overpopulation.

Contents

15,000 Year Death Wish

Researchers have recently found evidence of humans from over 15,000 years ago around where Brian currently lives. They then wonder what it would be like to hang out with these pre-historic humans. Brian then asks how far man would be set back if there was a major cataclysmic event 15,000 years from now.

Post-Singularity Economy

Andrew references an email he had received which asked what he thought the economy would be like in a post-singularity world. This leads to a long argument between Andrew and Brian about artificial scarcity and the value of brands.

They then discuss whether we are going to experience under- or over-population in the next 100 years.
