Lenovo’s Yoga Book is a laptop in search of a keyboard, GoPro is making content, and the Galaxy Note 7 needs quality time.

Variety reports that action camera manufacturer GoPro will launch 32 short form shows through early 2017. The content includes shows focusing on travel, music, and a partnership with Real Madrid to cover the storied football team. The shows are being produced by GoPro's entertainment unit currently staffed by approximately 200 employees, and led by former senior vice president of programming for MSG Networks, Ocean MacAdams. GoPro's turn to media content is part of their planned return to profitability by the end of the fiscal year after 3 consecutive quarterly losses.
Samsung announced that shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 have been delayed due to quality control concerns. Shipments of the device to the top three carriers in South Korea, SK Telecom, KT Corp, and LG UPlus Corp have halted entirely. In a statement to Reuters, Samsung advised that devices were delayed "due to additional tests being conducted for product quality". Business Korea reported that some users on Kakao posted pictures of the device with allegedly exploded batteries.
The Whitehouse announced it will hold an event on October 13th called the White House Frontiers Conference, focusing on building the U.S. capacity in science, technology, and innovation. The conference will be hosted by the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. As a tie-in with the topics covered in the conference, President Obama will guest-edit the November edition of Wired Magazine.
In a blog post Google announced a new search mode called “In Apps”. In Apps will allow users to find content within installed apps on your device. The new search mode works with Gmail, Spotify, and YouTube with future support for Facebook Messenger, LinkedIn, Evernote, Google Keep, Glide and Todolist in the coming months. To access the feature, users will need to go to the Google app on your Android phone and find the In Apps tab. LG V20 phone owners will be able to access the new In Apps mode directly with a dedicated shortcut on the homescreen and Second Screen.
Lenovo introduced the Yoga Book at the IFA Berlin. The device is a 10.1-inch convertible tablet, powered by an x5 Atom processor, 4GB of RAM, with a 1920x1200 IPS display. Instead of a keyboard cover, the Yoga Book features an attached "Create Pad", a specialized touch input surface. The Create Pad can be used as a virtual keyboard, used with pen input via Lenovo's Real Pen accessory, or with a piece of paper, used to take physical and virtual notes simultaneously. The Yoga Book will be available in October for $549 with Windows 10, or for $499 with a customized version of Android 6.0.
Here is a quick rundown of some other product releases from IFA Berlin. Aside from the Predator 21 X detailed yesterday, Acer announced 2 laptops the Swift 7, a fanless 13 inch laptop that is 9.98 millimeters thick and weights in at less than 2.5 pounds, and the Spin 7, a 14-inch laptop with a Core i7 processor, touch screen and 360-degree hinge, coming in at 11 millimeters thick. The Swift 7 launches in China in September for ¥6,999 yuan, followed by Europe and the United States in October, at €1,299 and $999, respectively.
Asus and Samsung released updates to their respective smart watches. The Asus Zenwatch 3 features a round display with 2 additional app shortcut buttons and is powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 2100, designed specifically for wearables. The device also allows for fast charging, giving a 60% charge in 15 minutes. The device will start at 229 euros and goes on sale in Germany and the US in October. Samsung's Galaxy Gear 3 features a larger 1.3-inch round display, and includes a speaker, GPS, NFC, and support for Magnetic Secure Transmission for paying at older terminals. LTE will also be available on some models. Samsung claims the device will have up to 4 days of battery life, even on LTE enabled models. No pricing or release dates have been announced.
HP announced a new modular desktop PC, called the Elite Slice. The design allows users to easily snap on accessories, including speakers, an optical disc drive, and a VESA mount. HP will also offer a wireless charging cover for the top of the device, but it will not be available for release. The base model starts at $700, no release date was announced. The company also announced the HP Pavilion Wave, which is designed to look like a standalone speaker. The device can be speced up to a Core i5 processor, 16gb of RAM, and an AMD R9 M470 GPU. HP is marketing the Wave to "older millennials". It will be available in October, starting at $529.99.
Last week Dropbox forced password resets for accounts that haven’t changed them since 2012. Motherboard followed up that story with a report that is has uncovered some 68,680,741 Dropbox account details. The accounts were found in four files, that total 5GB in size, currently circulating the "database sharing community". Both Dropbox and security expert Troy Hunt have confirmed the data is legitimate. However Motherboard does note 32 million of those passwords were found to be secured by a strong hashing function.
Box announced it lost and adjusted $0.14 per share in Q2 with revenue of $95.7 million. Analysts had expected an adjusted loss per share of $0.19 and revenue of $94.65 million. Revenue for the company is up 30% year over year, and Box added over 4000 new customers. Box also announced it acquired the employees of Wagon Analytics, who previous built a data analysis apps for Windows and MacOS. Wagon announced it will shut down all services on October 3rd as part of the acquisition.
In a post on Medium, read-it-later service Readability announced it is shutting down its bookmarking service on September 30th, concluding 5 years of operation. Readability provided users with tools to export their bookmarks, which must be done prior to the shutdown. The company will continue support for its Parser API, and promised further announcements as to its future.
Instagram now will finally let you zoom in on photos!! In a Instagram post the company said pinch to zoom in photos, videos, profiles and explore! The feature is coming to iOS today. An Android version will ship in the “coming weeks.”
