I wanted to weigh in on my smart speaker experience. I have an Echo Dot, and I mainly use it to listen to music via a connected bluetooth speaker while cooking. After a few false activations (not actually saying Alexa, but the speaker waking up and listening anyway), my wife said it creeped her out. Soooo, I bought a remote controlled outlet and I just leave the Echo Dot off most of the time, until I want to use it for a specific purpose. Then I use the wireless remote to turn on the outlet it's plugged into and off again when I'm done.
