Intel launches 48-core Xeons, Verizon reorganizes, and Fortnite gets NFL jerseys.

Intel announced the 14-nanometer Xeon Cascade Lake server processors. Current Xeon processors have 28 cores on a single die. The Cascade Lake series will have 48 cores on multiple dies in a single socket, similar to AMD's EPYC line. Two chips could be installed on a motherboard for 96 cores total and can accept up to 24 DDR4 RAM modules, meaning up to 3 TB of RAM. With Optane chips you could have 12 TB of system memory. Intel claims Cascade Lake performs 20 percent better than previous Xeons and 3.4 percent better than AMD's EPYC for certain tasks. AMD is expected to announce new 7-nanometer EPYC chips on Tuesday.
Amazon is offering its US customers free shipping with no minimum purchase. Non-Prime members normally need a purchase of $25 to get free shipping. The offer will last until delivery by December 25 can no longer be guaranteed.
Verizon is reorganizing into three divisions, consumer, media, and business. Network, IT and corporate functions will be centralized to serve the three divisions. The consumer group will include consumer wireless, wired and wholesale service. The business group will handle business wireless and wired as well as things like enterprise IoT, telematics and edge computing. The media group will include content outlets like Yahoo, TechCrunch, and Huffington Post as well as the advertising operations. The Oath name for this division will be phased out.
Nikkei reports its sources say Apple told its manufacturing partners not to increase iPhone XR production lines from 45 to 60. The increase would have added 100,000 iPhone XR units per day. The same sources say Apple increased orders for iPhone 8 and 8 Plus units by 5 million.
Epic Games reached a partnership with the NFL. Starting this Friday Fortnite players will be able to buy NFL team jerseys for their characters as well as football-themed gliders, emotes and resource harvesting tools.
Resetera and Nintendeal report some users seeing a YouTube app in the "You might also like" section of Nintendo's website with a release date of November 8. It does indicate Nintendo might add a YouTube app soon.
Sources tell the Wall Street Journal that Amazon has begun to focus on Crystal City, Virgina, Dallas and New York as the location for its second headquarters, though none of the 20 other cities under consideration has been ruled out yet.
LG robotics is developing a smart shopping cart that can follow customers through Korea's largest supermarket chain, E-Mart. The cart will include a barcode scanner and display to show your shopping list as well as the ability to lead you to items you're looking for. E-Mart launched a store without cashiers in the Gangnam district of Seoul back in August. No date on when the smart shopping carts might arrive in stores.
German banks HVB and Bunq emailed customers Monday announcing the launch of Apple pay support in Germany. Apple's Germany website lists supported bank cards and says that Apple Pay in Germany is coming soon.
Chrome 71 will block all ads on sites that consistently show abusive ads. Abusive ads do things like generate fake system messages, automatically redirect visitors or attempt to take personal info. If an abusive ad is reported a site will be given 30 days to clean up before all ads are blocked. Users of Chrome can also turn the filtering off if they wish.
