The Twitchcon Report

The guys are back from Twitchcon, with special guest Mike TV in the studio. If this were a choose your own adventure book, they gave the selection of:

  • Brian Great Moments in "Hey Boss" History
  • Brian lecturing an amateur
  • Night Attack becomes a Band
  • The business plan of #boiled

#Boiled

At twitchcon, Brian stalked from table to table of presenters asking "What are you really selling?" One group was giving out cup noodles to passers-by. Brian's great business idea was to partner with the cup noodle people and set up their own table where they sold boiled water under the banner #BOILED. As the textbook nice lady said, "Well, that's something. Do you have a card?"

Night Attack: The Band

Night Attack got offered a slot on a music stage at a bar showcase. "This must be a mistake?" Justin thought, but when have they ever turned down anything? Luckily Mike TV was also to be at Twitchcon. They also found Ali Spagnola and pulled her in. Serendipitously, there was a photo booth setup that they got some custom family photos of the band taken at. At this point the band consisted of Brian, Justin, Mike TV, Ali Spagnola, and Ashley Paramore, but Ashley quit the band immediately after the photos were taken.

It was at the point of going in to the bar, they were greeting by Pierre the Pot-Bellied Pirate (also the bar owner), who said Justin looked like Dariush. It turns out he was right. They got invited into the kitchen for drinks and meat.

The showcase was "a blast", but it was so early that the live streaming for the event wasn't running yet. Some people recorded locally, thank goodness, and they showed a short clip of Mike TV performing his hit "Paleophile"

After the show, they broke up.

Great Moments in "HEY BOSS" History

So yeah, the lines at twitchcon were really really long. Also twitchcon sold out, and so there was a question about whether Bryce - who counted as a +1 with Night Attack but didn't have an actual ticket. Turns out though, that Brian had to register for the con in order to get the free ("discounted to zero") ticket - something he did not remember to do.

Anyway, social engineering at the bar, on the street, and at Twitchcon, he got a a nice person to print a badge that simply had "Brian" on it.

Oh wait, Bryce was supposed to have a badge too, right? The person was reluctant to make a second impromptu badge. So they slid over to the helpdesk instead. A series of people eventually gave them the badge. Thank you, youtube.

Then, they got turned away at the door because Mike TV was carrying a guitar and couldn't bring it inside.

Brian Lectures an Amateur

A "near-homeless" guy with a desparate air about him (as Mike TV described it) came up to the group and said he needed guitar strings. Mike TV just has the one set and can't give it up. Despite rejection he persisted in following the group for a block and a half trying to hock a cable for money or strings.

Brian recognized the scam in progress and then proceeded to give the scam school lecture describing the grift-scam back to the amateur and how they were fucking up the routine, resulting in the amateur leaving deflated.
