The use of "microwave" to refer to a hand-held device capable of recording audio first occurred on December 28, 2010, during the first edition of the DIAF Podcast when Justin Robert Young used the term. When Justin was reading the first chapter, he misread "pink plastic microphone" as "pink plastic microwave", leading to Chatrealm pointing it out.
