Intel announced the 14-nanometer Xeon Cascade Lake server processors. Current Xeon processors have 28 cores on a single die. Two chips could be installed on a motherboard for 96 cores total and can accept up to 24 DDR4 RAM modules, meaning up to 3 TB of RAM. With Optane chips you could have 12 TB of system memory. Intel claims Cascade Lake performs 20 percent better than previous Xeons and 3.4 percent better than AMD's EPYC for certain tasks. AMD is expected to announce new 7-nanometer EPYC chips on Tuesday.
