Uber CEO says company IPO on track for 2019, teens love Facebook more than other platforms, Canon stops sales of its final film camera.

- Sources tell Bloomberg that Google is planning at least two models of its Pixel phone for release this October, likely called the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. The larger phone is reportedly designed with a nearly edge-to-edge screen, with a thicker bezel at the bottom of the phone and a notch at the top. The smaller model will reportedly look similar to the Pixel 2 and won’t include the notch or edge-to-edge look. Google shipped fewer than 4 million Pixel units in 2017, according to data from analytics company IDC. That compares with 216 million iPhones shipped in the same period. Sources say for the third year in a row, Verizon will be the exclusive U.S. carrier partner for the new Pixels.
- Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told CNBC Wednesday that the company is on track to go public in the second half of 2019. Last week, Uber posted 67% revenue growth over the previous year in its Q1 earnings report and reduced losses, thanks in part to the sale of Uber's Southeast Asian business to rival company Grab and a business merger in Russia with Yandex.Taxi.
- A recent study from Pew Research Center reports that teenagers use YouTube more than ever. 85 percent of teenagers (ages 13–17) say they use the platform, compared to Instagram at 72% abd and Snapchat at 69%. As for Facebook, compared to a 2015 report surveying teen use on the platform at 71 percent, that number has dropped to around 51 percent.
- Messaging app Telegram CEO Pavel Durov says that ever since Russian authorities ruled that the app was illegal in Russia, the company has been unable to release an update to the App Store in any region. since March. Durov tweeted "Unfortunately, some Telegram features, such as stickers, don’t work correctly under iOS 11.4 that was just released – even though we fixed this issue weeks ago." Russia asked Apple to ban Telegram after the apps' developers refused to hand over encryption keys to the Russian government. Telegram says has also been unable to release a GDPR compliant update.
- Facebook’s Messenger Kids app which allows children under 13 to chat with parents’ approval, no longer requires that the children’s parents be Facebook friends with one another, in order for the children to connect. The update still requires parents to approve every contact their child adds, and still requires that both parents are on Facebook. Messenger Kids now has around 500,000 installs, according to Sensor Tower data.
- Intel and Micron announced 3D XPoint memory back in 2015, which blends properties of flash storage and DRAM memory so it retains its value even when systems are powered down... and has 10 times the density of DRAM. Today, Intel announced Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory. This is a series of DDR4 memory sticks (with capacities of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB) that use 3D XPoint instead of traditional DRAM cells, with latency slightly worse than real DDR 4, but persistent. Although they use the standard DDR4 form factor, they'll only be supported on Intel's next-generation Xeon platform.
- Hulu CEO Randy Freer says the company's live TV service had surpassed 800,000 subscribers. The live service launched just over a year ago. Back in January, sources told CNBC that the live service had around 450,000 subscribers. For comparison, Sling TV has 2.2 million subscribers, and DirecTV Now has 1.5 million, but Hulu is ahead of YouTube's live service, with around 300,000 subscribers.
- Canon stopped making new film cameras to focus solely on digital cameras eight years ago. Now, the company says it's ending sales of its last film SLR, the EOS-1V. Canon said it will continue to repair the camera until 2025. Lenses for the camera are also still compatible with modern digital cameras, and vice versa.
