Solving the Debt Crisis

It's true... the United States only has twenty dollars and a taco, and the world is going to end. But don't fear Brian, Justin and Scott are here to solve all of the country's problems and they will do it one question at a time, in three minute chunks.

  • Is the Congressional super committee really just a shell game to trigger uneven cuts in domestic programs instead of pentagon pet projects? Should the cuts be targeted to inefficient programs as opposed to those generally opposed by an increasingly unpopular congressional political caucus?
    • Scott thinks that it's easy to like China Beach as a show, but its difficult to choose an episode that you like best.

  • Is President Obama dangerously close to alienating his political base in the upcoming 2012 elections. Although his staff contends that independence will be their main focus, did his lack of tax increases in the debt compromise further enrage the left that elected him in 2008?
    • Brian believes that out of all of the franchises in the Marvel universe, the Fantastic Four have never gotten a proper movie.

  • Could debt default be avoided by any other means other raising the borrowing ceiling. For example selling TARP assets, which are currently collecting dust, could have easily payed off our interest on the current balance and allowed for a reasoned debate on trimming spending instead of an unproductive raise against an imaginary deadline set by the White House.
    • Scott proposes that the problem is that Star Wars: The Old Republic will have too much story and not enough fighting. Brian argues that it will be so awesome, plus ships!

  • Did Mitt Romney harm his own presidential campaign by staying on the sideline of the debate until the final deal was hammered out? Will his ultimate criticism of the ultimate compromised ring hollow considering his lack of commentary while the back and fourth was going on?
    • Brian thinks that this could be the most exciting year for PC games since Half-Life 2 and Doom. However, Scott argues that you can say the same thing every year. Brian argues back with the fact that right now PC gaming is so far ahead of consoles in terms of graphics.

  • Was this entire debate a picture-perfect example of what's wrong with modern government? A serious serious yet complicated question about the financial future of our country and the cross-party culture over spending reduced to name-calling and screaming with the loudest on both sides coming from those with only the most cursory knowledge of a subject that's handed down by dead-eyed cheer leaders from either side of the aisle. One side isn't really trying to default the country because they are evil homophobic goblins drinking from the chalices constructed from the skulls of murdered abortion doctors. The other side is not really too busy to try to finance affirmative action for tree lizards while drawing up plans for a gold plated monorail from Manhattan to San Francisco with ample room to spit on the heads of those that they glide above to realize that we are in a dire financial crisis. There are other options; there's a rational way to discuss things, but the way that things go, it's insane enough that you just don't want to deal with any of it and you spend an entire segment talking about video games, comics and whatever else we've farted around for the last 30 minutes doing.
    • Unfortunately the question took up most of the time, and Scott didn't have enough time to form a complete sentence.
