Samsung said Friday it expects losses related to the discontinuation of the Note 7 to end up in the mid-2 trillion won range for Q4 and 1 trillion won in Q1. That would be a total of about US$3 billion. Wednesday Samsung estimated third quarter losses at around US$2.3 billion making the total loss more than $5 billion. Samsung plans to expand sales of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to make up some of the gap. Samsung also said it will make, "significant changes in its quality assurance processes."

Google will start adding a "Fact Check" tag next to news stories in the expanded story box in Google News in the UK and US as well as on Android and iOS Google News and Weather apps. The tags are similar to the existing Highly Cited or In Depth tags. Sites must add proper markup and follow commonly accepted criteria to be considered fact checking articles.

nvdia is a big part of cloud based implementations at this point as well as those other companies you mentioned on DTNS. both AWS and azure have VMs that can have a GPU are possible. GPU is vital for large data analysis (like medical or science might use) and media (video rendering, editing, etc) in the cloud can all be improved with GPU support. If you were nvidia, would you rather sell geforce cards to consumers or thousands of tesla cards to a server farm?

all the best,

Hey Tom and team,

Was listening to yesterday's podcast and Adonis's concern about all those accessories he bought for the Galaxy Note 7.

Want to report that Amazon is giving refunds to all those who bought Note 7 accessories even if outside the 30 day return period.

More about that here: http://www.androidauthority.com/amazon-refund-note7-accessories-outside-return-window-721768/

While it may not apply to Adonis since he may not be an Amazon customer for those particular parts, hopefully this helps anyone else who is facing a similar predicament.

Cheers,

PS - GO CUBS!!

Hi

I'm a little behind on the show
I just was listening to you and Patrick talk about the Samsung Notes issue
I just flow back from
Toronto to Moncton on an Air Canada 🇨🇦 flight
The attendants didn't just ask for Notes to be turned off, but collected all Samsung phones.
It goes to your point about Samsung brand being affected
None tech people really don't know the difference between one model and the next. This will affect mine share in the future for them.

Keep up the great work

Tom and team;

As a public health worker (and grad student) this caught my eye from the BBC:

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-37646474

Basically, a company called Zipline has set up in the country to deliver blood by drone to places that may not have an on-site blood bank. They mention in the story that this has the blessing of Rwanda’s President and the country’s Technology Minister (I think that’s who it was?). I’d love to get Darren’s perspective on this, as well as anyone else on the show.

As a public health worker, this is really exciting to me because of the specific application they’re using it for. In hospitals in the US and other highly developed nations, there are often on-site blood banks. This means (in my experience, anyway) that you can store blood in, say, an ER trauma room, and then replenish it from downstairs after you’re done working on the current patient. In many less developed places (Disclosure: I have no experience in Rwanda), they may have issues replenishing through anything other than a once-a-day truck delivery. That’s highly simplified, but you can see the problem. The fact that they have been given what looks like a license to work out the kinks, so to speak, makes me very, very happy.

Keep up the good work, and as both your boss and a Chicago fan...stop trying to jinx the Cubs, Tom. Please.
